  Chapter 1

Heather was walking through the halls, getting ready to go to English class with her close friend Trina. Heather was twenty-two with curly brown hair and dark blue eyes. Her curly hair went down to her waist. She was wearing a white t-shirt that hugged her body and showed off her tight figure. Wearing her cheer leading skirt blue and gold colors. Her book bag slung over both shoulders as she laughed about something Trina had said to her.

“So what are you doing after the game tonight?” Trina asked, hoping that they could hang out for a little while.

“I don't know, probably studying.” Heather told her softly.

Trina crinkled her nose, her light blue eyes turned towards her. Her dark blonde hair was put up in a ponytail. Wearing the same matching skirt as Heather but a black top instead of a white one she walked in behind Heather into their English class. They both found a seat in the front row sitting down beside each other.

Trina was hoping to convince Heather to go to the party that her friend Jim had invited them to after the football game that night. Win or lose they were going to have a good time. It was Autumn and the leaves were changing, they were starting to fall off the trees and gather on the ground.

Trina knew the party was out back of the school, deep into the woods. There was a sand pit where they all hung out. Having a fire and celebrating life mainly. It didn't matter about the wins and losses of a game it was living life that they really cared about.

“Are you sure you have to study tonight?” Trina asked before their professor walked into the room.

Heather nodded her head and kept her eyes on the Professor. She didn't want to make it look as if she wasn't paying attention. Heather made good grades, she was always serious about her grades, always trying to out do everyone else when it came to taking tests. She was always in her room studying whenever someone tried to find her.

Heather knew that her parents paid for the tuition when it came to her going to college. She didn't want to let them down. It wasn't like she had gotten in on a scholarship like most of them where they could just goof off and not get the job done. She knew that it came out of her parents bank account each month for her books, her room and whatever else she needed. The reason she worked so hard wasn't because she was a nerd it was because she wanted to show her parents that they could trust her with her being miles away from them for the first time in her life. She wanted to show them that they raised her right and that they didn't have to worry about her.

Trina tried getting her attention a few times during the class period. She wanted to have her go to the party after the game. Trina knew that Heather worked hard, she knew that she wanted to make her parents proud of her and she knew that her parents were already proud of Heather. Being friends for so long she knew how Heather's parents were. They wanted her to go out and have a good time while she was there. They wanted her to not only work hard but to have a life and look back on the memories she had made with new friends.

When class was just about over Trina slipped Heather a note. She had been writing it most of the class. Stopping here and there when she thought that the Professor was watching her. Heather took the note and opened it on her study book.

You should come to the party after the Basketball game tonight. I hear it's going to be a really good one. You never get out, you're always studying. Worrying about being the best. Even the best take days off Heather. Don't answer now I will find you after the Basketball game and hope that you have changed your mind.

  Love Trina.

Heather smiled and folded the piece of paper back up, putting it in the front of her book. She knew that Trina was right and even though she thought that studying would be better for her that evening she didn't give Trina an answer. She was actually going to think about it like Trina had told her to do.

The bell sounded and everyone started getting up from their desks. Trina waited for Heather at the door while everyone walked passed her. She wanted to make sure that they were still having lunch together.

Heather stopped to talk to the Professor about an upcoming test that they were having. It was a month away and Trina rolled her eyes as Heather made her way to her.

“What?” Heather laughed at her as they walked out of the class room and into the noisy hall way.

“Why do you always worry about tests? You know that you are going to do awesome on them. Even if you don't study.” Trina giggled at her, shaking her head and wishing she wouldn't take everything so seriously.

“I want my parents to know that they didn't waste their money on my college education. I'm not like you and all of our other friends on scholarships you know that.” Heather told her truthfully with a small smile on her face.

“Trust me, if your parents knew how hard you were working. Which actually I think they do know grades get sent home every time we get our report cards. You still have copies sent home and your original one will be sent to your parents. So yeah, they know how hard you work.” Trina told her, encouraging her to have just a little bit of fun.

“Maybe, I will give you a maybe. I have to call my parents today before classes end. See how things are going at home.” Heather told her, slowly parting ways so that she could go to her History class.

“Tell them I say hi and I will see them on Christmas break!” Heather shouted to her before she went into her own classroom across the hall from Heather.

Trina and Heather took turns on breaks. Heather went to Trina's parents house the Christmas before and now Trina was going to Heather's parents. It was a good thing that they lived in the same city, they had practically grown up next to each other.

Trina found it hard to focus on the rest of the day. She was having a hard time while she thought about the game and thought about the party after. She was hoping that Heather would get out and have a good time with her and their friends. Friends that she had neglected due to her work of course. Trina took a deep breath when she realized it was lunch time. She had made it through half the day so far and she headed towards the cafeteria for lunch.

“You want to sit outside by the trees? It's a nice day for it.” Heather suggested, walking up to her and getting in line.

“Sure. We haven't done that in a long time. It's too cramped in here anyways. The sun looks so inviting out there.” Trina looked out one of the cafeteria windows and saw the sun blazing high in the blue Autumn sky.

The line moved quickly and before they knew it they were outside beneath their favorite tree since they had started college.

“I've been thinking about the party and I think that I will go. You're right, I shouldn't always be studying. When I have kids of my own and they ask me about college I am sure they are going to be bored with well all I did was study while I was there. I don't want them to think that I was a bore all my life.” Heather laughed, thinking more about it and getting a little excited for the football game and the party after.

“Good! I was hoping that you would change your mind.” Trina's eyes grew wide and she had a big smile on her face.

“Tonight is going to be chilly so when we get ready for the game remind me to bring my sweat shirt with me.” Heather pointed at her.

  “I will. It's
going to be so much fun. We are having a fire, drinks and good friends with us. A memory in the making. One to cherish.” Trina nodded her head as they began eating their lunch. Both of them had grabbed a sandwich and got a drink out of the vending machine.

  Chapter 2

The rest of the day went by quickly, before the girls knew it they were in the locker room talking with the other cheer leaders and getting dressed, putting their hair up and putting make up on that matched their school colors.

“So are you hanging out with us tonight or are you going to be a bump on a log?” Their friend Jennifer asked with a smile on her face.

“No I'm going tonight.” Heather laughed, seeing that Jennifer was only teasing her.

Jennifer had straight black hair and dark blue eyes. She was the one friend that didn't mind walking around the locker room naked before she got ready. Not caring who saw her body.

“Good, it's about time you learn to have some fun.” Jennifer giggled as she got her cheer leading outfit on and sitting down beside Heather.

“I was thinking the same thing. I was shocked when Heather said she was going to go.” Trina laughed, joining in the conversation.

“Well we don't hardly see you anymore. The first year you were all about partying and having a good time now it's like the studying demon grabbed you in the middle of the night over summer break.” Jennifer joked, shaking her head as she pulled her skirt up to her waist.

“If I'm going to be a great journalist one of these days then I have to buckle down. I can't say I came from college and don't know a damn thing can I?” Heather asked the both of them, giving them a small smile.

“No but you should already know everything about being a journalist now and it's only your second year. As much studying as you do and all the books you've read plus the talent you have there is no way someone's going to turn you down.” Jennifer pointed out to her, being serious for a change. Letting Heather know that she was doing a great job and at the same time letting her know that there was more to life than just working all the time.

“I know, I just want to be the best. Just like you guys want to be the best at everything you do. You have it easy Jennifer.” Heather grinned at her, watching her get her shoes on.

“How do I have it easy?” Jennifer gave her a funny look.

“You are going for a cheer leading job with the NFL and that has got to be easy for you since you love it already and you've been cheer leading since you were little.” Heather explained to her.

“It doesn't mean it's easy though. I have to do auditions and have to still go to school for it. I still have to make sure that everything is perfect and that I get it right the first time because if I don't get it right the first time then they are going to discard me as if I wasn't even there. Besides during the summer time I have to go to the cheer leading camps that they have listed and that's not easy. Considering they expect you to know all their moves and have them ready. You have to study the moves that they want, the pep that they want and you have to do everything the way they want it done.” Jennifer explained to her calmly, everyone thought she had the easiest part of college.

“Not to mention the grades that you have to have. You have to keep up on all your studies.” Trina pointed out to both the girls as she laced up her shoes.

“I have all my grades up, it's really hard but I manage to have all my grades up to an A and I still have time to hang out with friends. I study on the weekends, get all my work done on the weekends and during the week I have time for whatever is going on.” Jennifer shrugged her shoulders.

Jennifer wanted to make sure that she had gotten her point across to Heather that there were times to study and then there were times to have a good time with your friends. They all knew that when college ended they were going to go in their own direction and live life. They all knew it without coming out and saying it.

“Ten minutes before game time girls, lets get on the field!” The CEO of the college walked in right behind the cheer leading coach.

“Mrs. Flanders we are ready.” Jennifer grinned at her, looking at her squad. She felt really good about being their captain.

“That's good because you have some scouts coming to take a look at you tonight. All of you girls actually but I put in a really good word for you Jennifer since you are the one here for cheer leading.” Mrs. Flanders smiled at her.

Mrs. Flanders was in her forties but she looked as if she was in her late twenties. She had a firm body and she kept herself in shape. Wearing her own cheer leading outfit even though she was just standing on the sidelines and watching the girls.

“Thank you so much.” Jennifer was surprised that there were scouts already looking at her.

“Good luck Jennifer.” Heather was happy for her as she gave Jennifer a quick hug before they headed out of the locker room to take their spot on the Basketball court.

“Good luck girls. I might even join you at the party tonight depending on how things go.” Mrs. Flanders nodded her head looking at the girls.

Jennifer led her squad out onto the Basketball court and she didn't bother looking up in the stands. She didn't want to look desperate knowing that the scouts were there looking at her. She wanted to show that she could do her best and that she can lead a team under pressure. It was going to be her chance to show them that she knew what leadership was and how things worked. All the practicing she had done in her dorm room with the door locked and watching videos that states had sent. She was sure that she would get what she wanted. There had been so many teams that had wanted her and some came out to take a look at her like now.

“Keep your head up no matter what.” Mrs. Flanders told Jennifer before she walked off the field and the girls stood on the sidelines doing their stretches.

“We are going to make you shine.” Trina told Jennifer, squeezing her arm as they stood side by side.

“I don't know where they are Trina. I am a nervous wreck.” Jennifer giggled nervously, making sure she kept her back towards the bleachers.

“You don't look it from the outside and if you decide you feel you have to throw up make sure you do it after the game.” Trina grinned, hearing Jennifer laugh at her.

Jennifer took a deep breath and felt a little better after talking to Trina. Trina was the go to girl for encouragement for all the girls and she liked the fact that Trina tried to make everyone feel good about themselves no matter what.

“What team do you want to cheer for when you get out of here?” Trina asked, she knew that Jennifer didn't talk about it much but there had to be a professional team that she liked herself.

“The Dallas Cowboys. I would like to be on their squad. If not them then any of them really. I would be lucky to work for any of the teams. It's been my dream since I was a little girl to have a cheering career and it might actually happen. I feel as if I'm getting closer and closer to making my dreams come true.” Jennifer told her, hearing the Basketball coach blow his whistle. The signal that it was just about game time.

“Keep doing what you're doing and you will get there Jennifer. I believe that you have everything it takes to become a professional cheerleader.” Trina told her as they took their spots and began with one of their cheers. The girls letting Jennifer lead the way.

Through out the game Trina kept glancing over at Jennifer. Even though Jennifer had said that she was nervous she sure didn't show it. Her voice was steady, her body was firm and she did all the regular routine cheers that they had practice throughout the week. She looked like a professional on the sidelines and Trina knew that any team would be lucky to have her. She had her head held high, she had a big smile on her face and when the game was over Jennifer hadn't made a single mistake and neither did the squad.

“I told you that you were going to do great!” Trina hollered to Jennifer, over the cheers of the crowd when their team had won the game.

“Jennifer! I want you to come meet someone!” Mrs. Flanders hollered to her with a smile on her face.

Jennifer looked over and saw a few scouts with Mrs. Flanders. They seemed to be happy with the performance she had put on. Jennifer hugged Trina quickly and left the group. Trina looked after her and saw that they were walking away from the field. She had a smile on her face when Heather found her.

“Where's Jennifer?” Heather asked, the crowd almost gone. The players going back to the locker room to get showered and changed.

“I think her life is about to change.” Trina grinned, turning her back on Jennifer as she got smaller and smaller in the distance.

“Come on, lets go shower and celebrate.” Heather grabbed her hand as they ran off with the rest of the squad to the locker room to get ready for some more fun.

The girls were all loud, talking about the game. The excitement still showing on their faces from the nights events.

“That was a close game. Right down the wire, I thought we were going to lose it.” One of the girls laughed when Heather and Trina walked into the room.

“Where's Jennifer and Flanders?” One of the girls asked, seeing that they weren't right behind Heather and Trina.

“I think they are talking to the scouts that came to see Trina. I think that she's going to get some really good news but we will have to wait and see. I hope to see her at the party tonight, I know she was looking forward to it.” Trina stated, glad that Jennifer had the confidence in herself to talk with the scouts.

“She did awesome tonight.” Heather nodded her head.

“We all did awesome tonight.” Trina reminded her as she went to one of the showers and turned on the hot water.

The girls cheered hearing this, they knew that they had done great as a squad. They also knew that with Jennifer leading them they were the best squad for miles around. They knew that having Jennifer as their captain was a great choice. She was always wiling to go the extra mile even when they didn't have practice she would be in her room making up new formations and cheers for them to do the following day.
